Breaking ground on our new home

When we found out that we would be able to move to Coeur d’Alene after dental school we were over the moon! We had always planned on coming back but we thought that would still be years away. We just planned on taking the job closest to Coeur d’Alene and then moving to Coeur d’Alene as soon as we could. We never imagined that we would be able to move back right after graduation.

Since we knew that this was where we wanted to stay forever we also knew we wanted to buy a house. Eli is 8 and we are ready to start putting down roots. Buying a house didn’t happen exactly like we had dreamed. We were buying in a time with not a lot of houses available and  lots of buyers. We had another strike against us that we were living in Seattle and trying to buy in Idaho. If something we liked came on the market it was usually gone before we could get there. So we decided to build! It wasn’t our first choice and we were a little unsure about it, but in the end everything worked out and we know it was meant to be.

They are finally breaking ground on our house this week! So a few days ago we went over as a family to have a little ground breaking ceremony. Now as a Mom I had big dreams of this little ceremony. We would all take a turn digging up a little dirt and talk about what we were most excited about the house and the memories we would make there. And then we’d go the Resort for fancy desserts. That’s not exactly what happen, not even a little bit! Once the boys go there with the wide open space, piles of rock and dirt the boys scattered. The dirt was much harder than they expected so they gave up digging pretty quick. Instead of talking about our hopes and dreams we tried to make sure they didn’t hit each other with the shovels. And the fancy dessert after? They were filthy after our 10 minutes there, so no fancy dessert either. We made memories, so I guess that’s what counts.

We are so excited to watch our house be built. Here’s to a quick, delay free house!

Cheers to an exciting new adventure!
